Kasar Devi:
Located about 9 km from Almroa, this ancient temple is dedicated to Kasar Devi, an incarnation of “Goddess Durga”. It is known for its spiritual importance and picturesque views of the Himalayas. This is a very old temple, dating back to about the 2nd century. Snow-capped Himalayan peaks, lush green surroundings and abundance of birds create the ambiance of the temple. Here one can experience spectacular views both architecturally and environmentally.
Jageshwer Dham:
Located about 34 km from Almora, Jageshwar is a complex of more than 10 Hindu temples, most of which are dedicated to “Lord Shiva”. Aarti is performed for 45 minutes at sunset in Jageshwar temple. During this time the atmosphere of the temple becomes mesmerized with music and recitation of shlokas. The Shivalinga is bathed and anointed by the priest of the temple. A number of travelers from all around the country and even foreign countries visit this region to seek spirituality and peace, and to explore the architecture of ancient temples. Chitai Golu Devta Temple:
This temple is dedicated to Golu Devta, a local deity believed to fulfill the wishes of devotees. The temple is famous for the hundreds of bells hanging inside, offered by people in gratitude. The mind feels extremely peaceful after seeing Golu Devta. The entire temple complex is full of bells. Golu Devta is worshiped in the local culture as the supreme and quick justice deity. He is called the royal deity. Golu Devta is called by many names in Uttarakhand. One of these names is Gaur Bhairav. Golu Devta is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva. When the wish is fulfilled, a bell is offered in the temple.
Nanda Devi Temple:
Located in the center of Almora, this temple is dedicated to Nanda Devi, the patron goddess of the Kumaon region. Almora is worth visiting all year round, the best time to visit Nanda Devi Temple and Almora is from July to October. The idol of Goddess Nanda is a huge monument consisting of a stone crown surrounded by a wooden roof. Every year in the month of September as per the Hindu calendar – on the Ashtami of Bhadra Shukla, the temple organizes a grand Nanda Devi fair. Katarmal Sun Temple:
This 800-year-old Sun Temple is an architectural gem, situated about 17 km from Almora. It’s one of the few temples in India dedicated to the Sun God. These temples are built out of large slabs of locally quarried stone which were then transported on hilly roads, a feat in itself in a period predating tarmac roads. Katarmal will be developed as a spiritual village centred around the temple featuring a cafe, yoga centre, homestays and more. And maybe nearly a millennia after its inception, this sun temple will once again rise to its earlier glory.
Dol Ashram:
The place is peaceful and relaxing amidst the dense forest of deodar and oak. Iris is situated at an altitude of about 1700 meters above sea level in Lamgada block of Almora district. It is approximately 85 km from Kathgodam and 50 km from Almora. is far. Dol Ashram was established in 1990 by Shri Param Yogi Kalyandasji, who was born in a small village in Almora district. Shri Parma Yogi Kalyandasji had a vision of Maa Bhagwati during his visit to Manasarovar and was inspired to start an ashram in the Himalayas.
