Lakshman Narayan Sharma was born as Neem Karoli Baba, shortened to Neem Karori Baba or Maharaj-ji, in the Uttar Pradesh, India village of Akbarpur in the Firozabad area in 1900. He was brought up in a Brahmin culture and showed evidence of spirituality at an early age. He got married and had children, yet there was an overwhelming desire in him to dedicate himself to a life of spirituality.

There are rumors that Baba was once on a train. He was without a ticket. When TT asked Maharaj Ji whether he had a ticket, he didn’t, so TT forced him off the train. They then attempted to start the train, but it wasn’t ready to go. Someone then advised TT to apologize to Maharaj Ji and ask that he be allowed to sit back in the train. When Maharaj Ji began to chuckle and jokingly inquire, “What, is it up to me to start the train now?” Beforehand, Maharaj Ji asked for a railway station to be built, and the railroads agreed to create a station at Kainchi Dham in Nainital. After that, the train started.

Death of Baba Neem Karoli

Neem Karoli Baba died at approximately 1:15 AM on 11 September, 1973 in a hospital at VrindavanIndia upon entering a diabetic coma. He had been traveling back to Kainchi by night train. from Agra, close to Nainital, where he had seen a cardiac specialist since he was having chest symptoms. After getting off the train at the Mathura railway station with his traveling companions, he started to convulse and asked to be escorted to Shri Dham Vrindavan.

They brought him to the hospital’s emergency department. He had injections from the doctor at the hospital, and his face was covered with an oxygen mask. He was in a diabetic coma, according to the hospital staff, but his pulse was normal. Saying, “Bekar (useless),” Maharajji stirred and removed the blood pressure monitoring band from his arm and the oxygen mask from his face. Ganga water was requested by Maharajji. Since there was none, ordinary water was provided to him. Then, he chanted “Jaya Jagadish Hare” (which means “Hail to the Lord of the Universe”) multiple times, lowering the pitch with each repetition. His expression turned very calm, and any hint of agony vanished. He had passed away.

The ashrams of Neem Karoli Baba are spread throughout India, including Neem Karoli Village in Khimasepur in Farrukhabad, Vrindavan, Rishikesh, Lucknow, Shimla, Kainchi, Bhumiyadhar, Kakrighat, Hanumangarhi in the Kumaon Hills, and Delhi. In Taos, New Mexico, in the United States, he also maintains an ashram.

He spent the final ten years of his life in the Kainchi Dham ashram, which was constructed in 1964 and included a Hanuman temple. It began two years ago with a small platform constructed for the purpose of performing yagnas by two local sadhus, Premi Baba and Sombari Maharaj. The temple, which is located on the Nainital-Almora road 17 kilometers from Nainital, has grown in importance as a pilgrimage site for both locals and visitors from around the world who are spiritual seekers and devotees. By Road: There is good road connectivity to Kainchi Dham Ashram. Buses and taxis from surrounding cities including Nainital, Haldwani, and Kathgodam can take you to the ashram.

Local Transport: Once you reach the vicinity of the ashram, you may need to hire a local taxi or auto-rickshaw to reach the exact location of Kainchi Dham Ashram.
