Saif Ali Khan attack incident: Facial recognition results favorable, police report that the photo of the Bangladeshi suspect corresponds with the CCTV image of the intruder.

A report from a facial recognition test has verified that the image of Mohammed Shariful Islam, the Bangladeshi man detained for supposedly attacking actor Saif Ali Khan at his home two weeks prior, aligns with the footage of the suspect recorded by different CCTV cameras on the day of the event, a Mumbai police official informed The Indian Express on Friday.
The police chose to carry out a facial recognition examination on Islam due to claims that his looks did not align with those of the intruder recorded in the CCTV video from the Satguru Sharan building, where the actor resides.
On Friday, the police obtained the forensic science laboratory (FSL) report, which determined that the image of the detained suspect and the intruder captured in different CCTV footage belong to the same individual, as confirmed by a senior police official.
The development is important because a dispute arose regarding claims that Islam’s fingerprint samples did not correspond with the fingerprints of the intruder found at the crime scene.
A high-ranking police official stated that in addition to the facial recognition findings, they possess robust technical evidence, such as the CCTV footage (which hasn’t been revealed in media accounts), the mobile phone tracking, and the IPDR (internet protocol detail report) to establish the accused’s involvement and presence in the vicinity during the incident.
Khan was assaulted at his residence in Bandra on January 16 and sustained multiple injuries from the event. Islam was apprehended in the Thane labor camp area on January 19 and is presently housed at the Arthur Road Central Jail.
